In addition to causing genital warts, HPV infections are also a problem for both men and women. In women, HPV infections can cause problems with cervical which causes cervical cancer. HPV infection can also cause problems that result in cancers of the vagina, vulva, anus, mouth, and throat. In men, HPV infections may cause cancer of the penis, anus, mouth, and throat. Recent studies have suggested that HPV may also be associated with heart disease in women.
Both women and men can get HPV from sexual contact, including vaginal, anal, and oral sex. Most people who become infected with HPV do not know that they are suffering from the disease because they are not aware of the existence of a sign or a problem. Genital warts does not appear at all, even if the virus remains in their systems and can cause damage. This means that people suffering from HPV can transmit the infection to other people without being noticed. Because HPV can lead to problems such as genital warts and some cancers, vaccines are an important step in the prevention of infection and protection against the spread of HPV.
That's why doctors recommend for all women and men to get the vaccine at the age of :
- Women: from the age of 11 or 12 years up to the age of 26 years.
- Men: from the age of 11 or 12 years up to the age of 21 years.
How does the HPV vaccine ?
The HPV vaccine is given as three injections over a period of 6 months. The vaccine cannot protect themselves against viruses HPV that may already exist in the body before doing vaccines. Get the vaccine before having sex for the first time is the most effective way to prevent HPV infection. But even when you're having sex, you can still get the vaccine. This is still the best way to protect yourself from viruses that might not have been growing on you.
The vaccine does not protect yourself from all types of HPV. Everyone who commits sex should do regular inspections to a doctor or health clinic. Women should do Pap smears when doctors recommend it – usually around the age of 21 years unless there is a sign of a problem before the age.
The HPV vaccine is not a replacement of the use of condoms to protect yourself from HPV and other sexually transmitted disease when having sex.
HPV vaccine side effects
Most side effects of the HPV vaccine is not harmful. These side effects include swelling or pain in the injected parts, or feel lost consciousness after being vaccinated. As in other vaccines, there is a small risk of an allergic reaction.
Most people don't have a problem with the vaccine. You can reduce the risk of loss of consciousness by sitting for 15 minutes at injected.
Protect yourself against HPV
For people who do sex, condoms offer some protection against HPV. However, condoms cannot fully prevent infection because the warts could be on a part that is not covered by condoms, and the virus could infect even if your spouse has no warts. Condoms can also be damaged.
The only way to be absolutely sure related HPV infections and the prevention of sexually transmitted diseases is not having sex.
Spermicides, foams, creams and jellies have not proven to protect themselves against HPV or genital warts. If you have a vaccine related questions or worry about sexually transmitted disease, talk with your doctor.
